Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his Likud Party is going to propose Sept. 4 as the date for early elections.

Netanyahu specified the date at this week's Cabinet meeting on today.

The elections would come more than a year ahead of schedule. The date would also set up a brief campaign that polls suggest will propel Netanyahu to another term in office.

Later on Monday, parliament is to begin deliberating proposals to disband the legislature. The process is expected to be completed Tuesday.
