An Iranian man was killed when he failed to open his back-up parachute during a stunt in the southwestern district of Fethiye, Doğan news agency reported.

Mahdi Makarem was performing moves in the sky when he became tangled inside his own parachute. Makarem struggled to open his back-up parachute but failed, plunging straight into the water following a 300-meter fall.

Makarem was pulled to the shore by coast guards and was taken to the Fethiye State Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.
