IBB goalkeeper saves third straight penalty

ISTANBUL

Istanbul BB’s Portuguese goalkeeper Eduardo achieved a rare feat of saving penalty kicks in three Spor Toto Super League matches in a row.

Istanbul BB goalkeeper Eduardo Carvalho saved yet another penalty yesterday in the match against Sivasspor, recording his third straight spot kick save in as many weeks.

Istanbul BB beat Sivasspor 2-0 in the Spor Toto Super League yesterday, to record its first victory after five matches.

Portuguese goalkeeper Eduardo was influential in the win, saving a 76th minute penalty kick by Ricardo Pedriel.

The former Braga, Benfica and Genoa goalkeeper also saved crucial penalty kicks against Sanica Boru Elazığspor on Nov. 17 and Gaziantepspor on Nov. 25. The Elazığspor match ended 1-1, while the Gaziantepspor game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Istanbul BB.

Istanbul BB is 13th with 15 points, while Sivasspor remains 9th with 19 points.

Earlier in the weekend, Beşiktaş rallied from one-goal down to claim a key 2-1 away victory at Orduspor on Dec. 1.

With the win, Beşiktaş cut the gap with leader Galatasaray to one point.

Galatasaray, held to a 1-1 draw against Gaziantepspor on Nov. 30, leads the standings with 26 points, while Beşiktaş has 25 points in 14 matches.

In other games on Nov. 1, Sanica Boru Elazığspor rose from the bottom for the first time since the third week of the season, after it beat Karabükspor 1-0. Elazığspor has 12 points, while Akhisar slipped to the bottom after a 2-2 draw against Bursaspor that took its points tally to 11.
