A building supply store in the Aegean resort town of Bodrum was engulfed in flames this morning, prompting a large response by local firefighting crews who have been fighting to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby dwellings.

The fire broke out at a large-sized building supply store in Bodrum's Kavacık vicinity at around 11 a.m. today and quickly engulfed the building.

Firefighters from Bodrum Municipality and the Forestry Department were dispatched to the area while a firefighting helicopter was requested from the Muğla Provincial Forestry Department. The store was reportedly evacuated but it was not clear whether anyone was left behind.

Frequent explosions were heard as paint thinners and other chemicals found in the store caught fire. Authorities ordered the evacuation of all residences and offices around the burning building.

The road between the center of Bodrum and the town of Turgutreis was closed due to the fire.
