A cigarette addict's 2-year-old terrier has been diagnosed with lung cancer in the northwestern city of Sakarya.

Sakarya Veterinarians’ Chamber President Mustafa Yıldız revealed the news today, saying the dog's owner was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day.

"[The dog] was diagnosed with lung cancer due to second-hand smoke," Yıldız said. "We performed surgery on the dog, but it was too late to stop the cancer.”

Yıldız said house pets become passive smokers if their owners smoked. "Animals, too, are negatively affected by cigarette smoke, as well as radiation from TVs and cellular phones."
Yıldız did not identify the dog's owner.
