Gunfight between police and suspect on highway halts Istanbul traffic

Istanbul police conducted an operation to capture a suspect today as a gunfight between the two sides stopped traffic on the TEM highway for an hour.

Police teams reportedly cut the road after chasing the car the suspect was driving. The suspect exchanged gunfire with the police and was captured after being shot. 

The injured suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and police confiscated his car.

The highway, linking Istanbul to the capital Ankara, was reopened after the police completed searching the scene.
