President Abdullah Gül got back to his busy schedule today with a heavy foreign policy agenda, following nearly two weeks away from work due to an ear infection.

Gül met separately with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioğlu today, at a time when Turkish diplomacy has been under fire because of the ongoing policy on Syria.

Refusing to give details about the substance of Gül’s meeting with the minister and undersecretary, sources said Davutoğlu and Sinirlioğlu had informed the president about ongoing developments regarding Syria and the measures Turkey has been taking on the growing refugee problem.

Syria reports

Other important developments were also touched on at the meeting. A picture showing Gül at hospital proved that Gül stayed up to date with the developments in Syria through the reports he received from the relevant state institutions.

Gül has had to cancel his trips abroad in September and October due to his ear ailment, upon the advice of his doctors.

He will also skip this year’s United Nations’ General Assembly meeting, with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan replacing him in New York late September.
