Guideline booklets prepared for integration of Syrian students in Turkey: Ministry

ANKARA

The Education Ministry has prepared guideline booklets for Syrians under temporary protection status in Turkey to inform them about counseling services in order to facilitate students’ integration.

According to a statement published on the ministry’s website, the General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services’ booklets will be used in counseling services to be offered in 81 provinces across Turkey.

Another booklet was also prepared in cooperation with UNICEF to provide guidelines for the counseling personnel.Around 160 counsellors are receiving training to take part in the education program.

Students are to carry out activities that aim to raise awareness on multiculturalism in order to support the process of adaptation into Turkish society.

It also aims to support Syrians who suffer from post-war trauma and instill coping skills.

The guideline booklets will be distributed until the end of December.

Turkey hosts 3.2 million Syrian refugees, more than any other country in the world.

Ankara has spent $25 billion in helping and sheltering refugees since the beginning of the Syrian civil war.

Syria has remained locked in a vicious civil war since 2011. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed by the conflict and millions more displaced, according to U.N. figures.
