Greek striker Teofanis Gekas scored a double against Fenerbahçe on Sept. 29 in a 2-0 victory in the Spor Toto Super League, increasing his goal tally to six in four games and putting his Akhisarspor team at the top of league standings.

It was the third double of the season for Gekas, who also previously scored two goals against both Balıkesirspor and Kayseri Erciyes, in 2-1 victories for his side.

Gekas as an individual has scored more goals than 15 teams in the Super League so far this season, only beaten by Akhisarspor and Gençlerbirliği and tied with Kasımpaşaspor.

The veteran became the first player of Greek nationality to play in the top Turkish league when he joined Samsunspor in 2012. He is a fan favorite in Turkey and has thrived in three separate clubs.

After Samsunspor, Gekas had a brief Spanish La Liga stint at Levante. He then moved on to play for Akhisar, where he scored 12 goals in 15 matches after joining in the second part of the season, almost single-handedly saving the Aegean side.

Last year he scored 13 goals for Konyaspor. For this campaign, he returned to Akhisar, where he is described as a “Greek God” among fans.

The striker has scored 39 goals in 54 games in the Turkish chapter of his career and shows no signs of slowing down.

In other Super League games over the weekend, a 1-1 draw was the most popular score; the Torku Konyaspor vs. Kayseri Erciyes, Beşiktaş vs. Eskişehşirspor, Trabzonpor vs. Kasımpaşaspor games ended in this result.

Galatasaray ended its slump with a 2-1 victory at home against Roberto Carlos’s Sivasspor, boosting some morale ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Arsenal in the Champions League.

Elsewhere, Gençlerbirliği won its first game under new coach İrfan Buz as the Ankara club beat Balıkesirspor 3-1, and Bursaspor gathered three points at Çaykur Rizepsor with a 1-0 victory.
