Greek Cypriot farmers protest Turkish tomatoes

NICOSIA - Anatolia News Agency
Greek Cypriot agricultural associations are up in arms at the influx of Turkish tomatoes into certain markets and grocery stores in Nicosia.
The tomatoes are allegedly being transported via the “green line regulation.”
“These products sold in Greek Cypriot packages which carry the cards and names of Greek Cypriot producers, deceive the Greek Cypriot people,” said the agricultural associations. They complain that these products lead to unfair competition and argue that there needs to be new laws and reforms to the “green line regulation.” The Green Line Regulation organizes the transport of people and products between both sides of the island.
The Greek Agriculture Ministry said that so many tomatoes cannot be grown on the Turkish side of the divided island.
