Organs that were to be used in Turkey’s second-ever face transplant were dropped on the ground on the way to hospital for the operation due to a problem with the cardboard boxes in which they were being carried, daily Hürriyet reported.

Hacettepe University was conducting the operation on a 25-year-old woman whose face was gravely burned when a television set exploded nearby when she was 5.

The donated face, legs and arms were brought carefully to the hospital until the box carrying them broke and the organs fell to the ground.

Hospital personnel immediately intervened and handled the situation but voices of concern were raised over the insufficiency of the method of transport for the organs.

The operation began as scheduled despite the minor hassle and is still continuing, Hürriyet reported.
