A giant petroleum refining tower that was dispatched from Dubai to Turkey’s İskenderun port is now being transferred to northern Iraq using “millipede trucks.”

The 70-meter long, 250-ton tower is expected to arrive at its destination in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in 15 days. Cem Atıcı, one of the coordinators of the operation, said it was the first time that such a job has been undertaken by Turkey, adding that measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the tower along its journey.

After it crosses into Iraq’s Kurdish region, the truck will be accompanied by peshmerga forces, Atıcı also said, adding that the planned route would not overlap with areas controlled by militants belonging to the Islamic State (IS), formally known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levent (ISIL).
