German ambassador meets Turkish Foreign Ministry officials in Ankara

ANKARA
German Ambassador to Ankara Martin Erdmann met officials from the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara on Sept. 18, following an invitation made around 10 days ago, according to diplomatic sources.

The meeting came two days after the ministry summoned Erdmann on Sept. 16 to voice condemnation over a rally held in support of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Cologne.

The content of the Sept. 18 meeting was not immediately clear.

It was originally reported that Erdmann had been summoned to the ministry.

However, ministry sources said the meeting had been planned earlier but Erdmann was only called on Sept. 18 as he was previous outside the capital.

Earlier in the day, Der Spiegel magazine had reported that Ankara wanted to raise the issue of a German parliamentary motion last year that described the 1915 killings of Armenians under Ottoman rule as genocide, a term that Ankara rejects.
