Genius pianist at Istanbul Recitals

The fifth anniversary recital of the Istanbul Recitals will be performed by American “genius pianist” Claire Huangci on June 7 at The Seed at Sakıp Sabancı Museum.

Born in 1990 to Chinese parents, Huangci won first prize at the National Chopin Piano Competition in Miami in 2010. She had previously won first prize in the 2009 European Chopin Piano Competition in Darmstadt and the Orpheum Music Prize in Zurich.

Huangci has been supported with scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), as well as the German Foundation of Musical Life, for the past two years. Having completed four years of study at the Curtis Institute of Music, Huangci is now continuing her music education in Germany in Hannover.

At least 42 people died when a dam burst its banks near a town in Kenya's Rift Valley, the local governor told AFP on Monday, as heavy rains and floods battered the country.
