Prosecutors say France has handed over to German authorities a Turkish national accused of membership in outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The 21-year-old man, identified only as Sedat K. in line with German privacy rules, was arrested near Paris on July 10 on a German warrant. He was sent to Germany on Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors said today that a judge ordered him kept in custody pending formal charges.

They say that the suspect is accused of being a high-ranking official in the PKK’s youth organization in Germany and neighboring Switzerland between Oct. 2009 and March 2011, and that one of his responsibilities was collecting money for the group.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
