Forest fire burns through southern province

Some 180 hectares of forest was burned in the southern province of Hatay yesterday after a fire spread into Hatay's Yayladağı district from Syria, Doğan news agency reported.
 
The fire began in a bordering Syrian town on Aug. 18 and crossed into Turkey when authorities failed to contain it.
 
Several thousand people were evacuated from the risk zone out of fear that the flames could spread further.
 
Teams are still fighting to douse the blaze.
