The Foreign Ministry has warned Turkish citizens in Egypt to stay away from the demonstrations and not to travel within the country by road in a statement on Aug. 18, underlining that a state of emergency had been declared by the authorities, with a curfew starting at 9 p.m. local time.

“The citizens that will travel in Egypt should [prefer] resort towns and cities where there are direct flights and avoid road traveling. It is also indispensable to stay away from the squares where the demonstrations are held,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry also urged Turkish citizens traveling to Egypt or living in the country to call either the Embassy in Cairo, the General Consulate in Alexandria or the ministry’s call center in any event out of ordinary.

“It is important that for the personal security of our citizens to take all safety measures and stay vigilant in all cases,” the statement also said. At least 830 people have died in Egypt since Aug. 14 after the security forces conducted a crackdown on camps where supporters of the ousted President Mohamed Morsi were demonstrating since his overthrow by the army on July 3
