Fidan meets US envoy as Syria ceasefire talks advance

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack on Tuesday, amid ongoing developments in the Syrian ceasefire.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry shared a photo of the encounter on social media platform X, offering no additional details.
Barrack reposted it, adding: "Continuing discussions with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today."
The U.S. had praised the ceasefire and integration pact between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced Sunday.
"This agreement and ceasefire represent a pivotal inflection point," Barrack stated on X.
He noted that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa views Kurds as essential to Syria, saying: "The United States looks forward to the seamless integration of our historic partner in the fight against ISIS (ISIL)."
"The challenging work of finalizing the details of a comprehensive integration agreement begins now, and the United States stands firmly behind this process at every stage," Barrack added.
Al-Sharaa unveiled the broad ceasefire and integration deal with the SDF, aimed at reestablishing state control in Syria's northeast.
Per the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the accord mandates an immediate full halt to fighting on all fronts and contact lines.It coincides with the SDF pulling back military units east of the Euphrates as a prelude to redeployment.
