Defending league champion Fenerbahçe will play early leader Akhisar, powered by Greek striker Theofanis Gekas, in the fourth round of the Spor Toto Super League.

In a Sept. 28 game between two sides that have collected seven points after three rounds, Fenerbahçe will visit Akhisar, which currently tops the league on goal difference.
A large number of Akhisar’s goals came from Gekas, who continues to be one of the most prolific strikers in the division.

Gekas scored four of Akhisar’s six goals this season, topping the goal scoring charts.

The veteran became the first player of Greek nationality to play in the top Turkish league when he joined Samsunspor in 2012. He is a fan favorite in Turkey and has thrived in three separate clubs.

After Samsunspor, Gekas had a brief Spanish La Liga stint at Levante. He then moved on to play for Akhisar, where he scored 12 goals in 15 matches after joining in the second part of the season, almost single-handedly saving the minnow Aegean side.

Last year he scored 13 goals for Konyaspor. For this campaign, he returned to Akhisar, where he is likened to a “Greek God” among fans.

The Sunday game starts at 7 p.m.

Earlier, Çaykur Rizespor will take on Bursaspor, Konyaspor will meet Kayseri Erciyesspor and Gençlerbirliği will play against Balıkesirspor.

Beşiktaş, the third team holding seven points, will meet Eskişehirspor on Sept. 27. The game will be the Black Eagles’ final game before next week’s crucial Europa League match against Tottenham Hotspur. Trabzonspor, who has recorded three draws in as many weeks, will host Kasımpaşa.

The fourth round will be wrapped up with Kardemir Karabükspor playing Mersin İdman Yurdu and Gaziantepspor taking on Istanbul Başakşehir.
