A court in the Black Sea province of Samsun has sentenced a man pretending to be deaf and mute to 12.5 years in prison after he hugged and kissed a 17-year-old girl, daily Radikal has reported.

Ali Alpaslan, 28, was pretending to suffer from the disabilities as part of a panhandling ruse when E.Y., a woman who works at a beauty center, gave him two Turkish Liras. Alpaslan allegedly pulled the girl toward himself, hugging and kissing her neck.

Alpaslan was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison on sexual abuse charges following a report from Samsun’s Ondokuz Mayıs University Medical Faculty that said E.Y. had suffered psychological damage.
