More than one million people have now visited EXPO 2016 hosted in the southern province of Antalya since April 23, the fair’s media agency reported on July 22.

With the entrance of the Kemer and Karakurt families into the venue hosting the massive six-month-long event themed “Flower and Children,” the number of guests visiting the EXPO 2016 reached 1 million. Greeted by the mascots of the event, Ece and Efe, the families were given tickets for the Sting concert that will take place on Aug. 9.

“We have wanted to visit for a long time but could not find a chance. Our friends insisted on [us visiting] today. Lucky for us, as we became the 1 millionth visitor. We are really happy,” said Nilay Kemer.

Antalya, won its bid in 2009 to host the botanic event of the prestigious Expo 2016. The expo, themed “Flowers and Children,” is meant to promote Turkish history and cultural diversity as well as Turkey’s rich agricultural and economic potential. Reflecting this, the slogan of the event is “A green world for future generations.”
