Erdoğan welcomes US-Iran ceasefire, urges full implementation

ANKARA

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on April 8 welcomed the ceasefire announced overnight between the United States and Iran, saying he hoped it would be fully implemented on the ground without giving room to “provocations and sabotage.”

Erdoğan said the ceasefire had brought relief after a war that had shaken the region since Feb. 28.

He said Türkiye hoped the agreement would hold in full and help prevent a renewed escalation.

Erdoğan also congratulated all actors who contributed to the ceasefire process, singling out “friendly and brotherly” Pakistan.

He said Türkiye’s sincere wish was for the region to reach peace, calm and stability as soon as possible after years of war, tension and suffering.

“Türkiye will continue to raise the voice of peace in its region and across the world,” Erdoğan said.
