Electric vehicles expected to reach 25 percent market share in Türkiye this year

ISTANBUL

Electric vehicles (EV) could account for up to 25 percent of total sales in Türkiye this year, according to Aydın Erkoç, chairman of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Federation (MASFED).

Despite an overall slowdown in the automotive market, sales of EVs continued to rise, he said. Erkoç noted that that EV sales increased by 18 percent in the first three months of the year, highlighting the accelerating shift in consumer preferences.

He pointed to environmental concerns, lower operating costs and technological transformation as the main drivers of this trend. “Globally, there is a strong transition from internal combustion engines to electric models. In Türkiye, this shift has also gained momentum. Rising fuel prices, maintenance expenses, and service fees are pushing consumers toward more economical alternatives, and electric vehicles provide significant advantages,” he said.

Erkoç emphasized that the market share of electric vehicles in Türkiye is climbing steadily each month. If the current growth continues, he expects their share to reach 25 percent of total sales by the end of the year.

He added that the entry of Togg into the market has further strengthened interest in EVs, with consumers showing strong support for domestic production.

“The growing confidence in EVs is evident. Today, they are not only popular in the new car market but are also gaining traction in the used-car market. This shows that the transformation is permanent,” Erkoç stated.
