Eight people were killed and seven more were wounded last night when a van collided with a minibus carrying whirling dervishes on the Ankara-Konya highway, daily Hürriyet reported.

The van's driver suffered a heart attack while driving, causing him to crash his vehicle into the minibus that was carrying dervish performers. Eight people in the van, all relatives, were killed in the crash.

Mürteza Çevik, 9, was the only survivor from the van. Six more people on the minibus were also wounded, but none of them are in critical condition.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu learned about the incident while he was on his way to Ankara and visited the hospital to which the bodies were transferred, extending his condolences to the relatives of the deceased.
