Economic confidence weakens, unemployment rate falls: Data

ANKARA

Türkiye’s economic confidence index fell by 1.5 percent month-on-month in April to 96.4, marking its lowest level since July 2025, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) showed.

The index stood at 97.9 in March, according to TÜİK data. A reading below 100 indicates pessimism about the general economic outlook, while a value above 100 points to optimism.

Consumer confidence rose by 0.5 percent from the previous month to 85.5 in April.

The real sector confidence index, which covers manufacturing, declined by 1.4 percent to 98.6, while the services confidence index fell by 3.1 percent to 109.7.

Retail trade confidence dropped by 1.8 percent to 111.6. The construction confidence index, however, increased by 3.6 percent to 83.6.

Separate TÜİK data showed that Türkiye’s unemployment rate fell by 0.3 percentage points in March from the previous month to 8.1 percent.

The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over declined by 96,000 month-on-month to 2.87 million.

The unemployment rate was estimated at 6.8 percent for men and 10.7 percent for women.

Youth unemployment, covering the 15-24 age group, fell by 0.5 percentage points from the previous month to 15.3 percent.

The rate stood at 12.8 percent for young men and 20.4 percent for young women.
