Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said he was pleased that Igdır Airport met international airport standards along with the needs of the local community with domestic and international flights at the opening ceremony for Turkey’s regional airport at Iğdır in eastern Turkey yesterday.

Yıldırım said that the Iğdır Airport would be a regional airport meeting the needs of not just Igdır and Turkey, but also neighboring countries. Yıldırım stressed that Iğdır Airport had been a work in progress since 1996, but had never gotten off the ground before now. He praised the government for increasing the number of airports from 26 to 48 with the latest addition of Igdır Airport.

Urban Planning Minister Erdoğan Bayraktar, Health Minister Recep Akdağ, Forest and Waterworks Minister Veysel Eroğlu, Food and Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker and AKP Party Vice President Hüseyin Celik all attended the airport’s opening ceremony.
