Dissolution of HSP on congress agenda

ANKARA

HSP was formed by Numan Kurtulmuş shortly after he broke from the Felicity Party (SP) in Oct. 2010. HSP will talk dissolution in the upcoming congress.

The People’s Voice Party (HSP) will hold its expected congress Sept. 19 to discuss self-dissolution following HSP head Numan Kurtulmuş’s alleged intention to merge the political party with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) at the request of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the minor conservative party announced on Sept. 3.

“The People’s Voice Party’s Big Congress will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept, 19. Discussing the dissolution of the HAS Party [HSP] and the reading out of activity reports will be among the items on the agenda at the Big Congress,” said a written statement released by the HSP Press Office.

“Since there is no provincial congress held for HAS Party, the board of founders will act as the Big Congress,” the statement said, noting that HSP had applied to the Çankaya Election Board in the capital city of Ankara earlier Sept. 3 for permission to hold the Big Congress.

Speculations on ‘party head successor’

In July, following long-held speculation that Kurtulmuş was on Erdoğan’s mind as a possible party head successor, Erdoğan personally proposed the idea of merging the parties under the umbrella of Erdoğan’s AKP to Kurtulmuş. The HSP was formed by Kurtulmuş shortly after he broke from the Felicity Party (SP) in October 2010. Erdoğan once belonged to SP, the flag-bearer of the conservative “National View” movement, before forming the AKP.
