Deputies, lawyer meet with PKK leader: claim

Peace and Democracy Party Deputy Ayla Akat Ata, lawyer Meral Danış and independent deputy Ahmet Türk traveled to İmralı Island on Jan.3 to meet with the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Öcalan, according to daily Radikal.

The group was picked up from Ataköy this morning around 8 a.m. and returned to Istanbul around 3 p.m. in the afternoon.

Öcalan is serving a life sentence on İmralı island in the Marmara Sea.
 
The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
