İhlas Holding's board chairman, owner of daily Türkiye newspaper and TGRT channel, Enver Ören, passed away Feb. 22 following a brain hemorrhage at the age of 74. Ören, who was hospitalized Jan. 28 at Şişli Memorial Hospital in Istanbul, lost his battle with his failing health despite doctors’ best efforts, daily Türkiye has reported. A funeral will be held Feb. 23 at the Eyüp mosque, the report added.

Ören began his career as a journalist in the 1970’s by first publishing daily Hakikat, which became the foundation stone of İhlas Holding. The daily changed its name to Türkiye in 1972 and was printed as an evening newspaper until 1980. In 1993 Ören founded another important piece of his media holding, İhlas news agency, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in the beginning of January.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Ören and cult Turkish arabesque singer Muslüm Gürses at Memorial Hospital on Feb. 9. Erdoğan told the media that both patients were unconscious and in intensive care after his visit.
