Convict sets self afire in Istanbul prison

ISTANBUL
A convict who was serving his sentence at the Silivri prison in Istanbul set himself afire on Nov. 29, Doğan News Agency has reported.

A number of firefighters and police units were immediately dispatched to the prison in the afternoon hours upon a fire warning.

The convict identified as Burak Eroğlu broke out a fire, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office later announced.

Eroğlu had been sentenced to nine years in jail on charges of robbery, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

It also added that Eroğlu’s treatment was ongoing in hospital.
