A relative of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was killed during clashes against assassination attempts targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the southern resort Marmaris on July 15, a CHP deputy has stated.

CHP Tunceli deputy Gürsel Erol said in a condolence message that police officer Nedip Cengiz Eker had been killed during clashes on the night of the failed coup attempt. Erol added that Eker was a relative of Kılıçdaroğlu from the Nazmiye district of the eastern province of Tunceli.

President Erdoğan was on vacation in Marmaris when a group within the military initiated a coup attempt late on July 15.
