CHP leader meets with acerbic writers of popular online forum Ekşi Sözlük

ISTANBUL
Turkish main opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu came together on July 7 with the founding writers of one of Turkey’s most popular online forums, Ekşi Sözlük (“Sour Dictionnary” or “Sour Times”), to share opinions on the current events in Turkey.

The website, which was founded in 1999, is very popular, especially among young people, and acerbic satire is the main ingredient required to comment on anything from politics to the most trivial topics.

During the informal breakfast, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) head gave a certificate and a gas mask to the website’s founder, Sedat Kapanoğlu.

A writer with the nickname “kanzuk” wrote that the meeting lasted two hours and that they mainly discussed the ongoing Gezi protests and social media’s influence.

“We conversed about everything, including expectations from the CHP on the Kurdish issue, understanding the language of those who participated in the Gezi protests and how to appeal to them,” the contributor wrote in a post published on July 7.

The writer also added that, very coincidentally, they had met with Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) lawmaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who had stopped bulldozers from cutting down trees at Gezi Park during the first days of the protest.
