LONDON

Aksu, who is based in London, said that he was inspired by the grace and charisma of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Marie.

Designers turned to nature for inspiration on the opening day of London Fashion Week on Sept. 14, showcasing a collection of sheer silk dresses, delicate embroidery and elegant show pieces all featuring a floral-inspired theme.

For the upcoming spring season, Turkish designer Bora Aksu looked back to a Romanian queen in the early 1900s for inspiration. The result is a collection of ethereal, romantic gowns and dresses in dreamy shades of dove gray, cornflower, lavender and violet.

Aksu, who is based in London, said that he was inspired by the grace and charisma of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Marie, who became the queen of Romania in 1922. Most pieces seemed to be composed of layers of the sheerest organza, adorned with abstracted, Art Deco style botanical prints.

Speaking to Reuters, “I just wanted to create something that was really light,” Aksu said. “There’s texture on it but it’s very light, there’s prints and embroideries and stuff but it’s almost like a light layer, so nothing is really heavy. I wanted to make it like air.”
