Bilgi University to continue education after new decision
ANKARA
A presidential decision revoking Istanbul Bilgi University’s operating permit has been annulled, clearing the way for the university to continue education activities.
The new decision, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette on May 25, revoked an earlier presidential decision that had removed the operating permit of the university, whose founding foundation had been placed under trustee management.
The decision was taken upon a request from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) under the relevant article of the Higher Education Law.
YÖK President Erol Özvar said education and training at Istanbul Bilgi University would continue without interruption.
Özvar said Erdoğan had reassessed the process with sensitivity to ensure that students’ education, families’ peace of mind and university employees’ rights were protected.
“The decision was updated in line with the strong will to prevent any grievance for our students, families and university employees,” Özvar said.
He said the first decision had been a compulsory legal step under existing legislation, but that the latest reports and updated assessments had led to the revised decision.
Özvar said the new decision would be beneficial for students, families and the higher education community.
