Banvits end year with win over Galatasaray

Banvit beat Galatasaray Medical Park 74-67 yesterday to end the year in top four of the Beko Basketball League.

In a game between the fourth and fifth teams of the standings, Banvit used its home court advantage and beat Galatasaray in a game it largely dominated.

Charles Davis had 17 points to lead Banvit, Vladimir Stimac added 12 for the hosts. David Hawkins’ 18 points were not enough for Galatasaray.

With the win, Banvit improved to 11-2, while Galatasaray slipped to fifth with 10-3.

Fenerbahçe Ülker leads the league with 11 wins in 12 matches. Fener was set to meet Aliağa Petkim in a later game yesterday.

Pınar Karşıyaka rose to second spot with a 82-70 win over Olin Edirne on Dec. 29. However, Anadolu Efes, on 12-2, has the chance to retain the second spot when it meets Tofaş tonight.

In other games in the weekend, TED Kolejliler beat Mersin BB 88-85 to continue its surprising run.
Newcomers to the Beko Basketball League, TED Kolejliler is sixth with an 8-5 winning record.

Another newcomer, Royal Gaziantep got a key win on Dec. 29, when it beat Antalya BB 79-72.
Royal is 12th with a 4-9 record, while Antalya BB remained 15th.
