Aussie Renshaw claims victory on Anzac Day

FETHİYE

Rabobank’s Australian rider Mark Renshaw (L) pedals to victory in Marmaris.

Rabobank’s Australian rider Mark Renshaw yesterday edged out compatriot Matthew Goss for the stage win on Anzac Day in the fourth stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour, or Tour of Turkey.

Renshaw finished the 132-kilometer Fethiye to Marmaris stage in three hours, 14 minutes and two seconds and passed Goss by the smallest of margins in a dramatic race which was decided on photo-finish.

“It’s Anzac day, a very special day for me,” Renshaw said after the race. “I commemorate who has passed there and dedicate my victory to the Anzac people.”

Earlier in the day, Renshaw tweeted on his personal account: “It’s #AnzacDay and I’m racing here in Turkey. Would be very nice to win today’s stage on this special day for our country.”

Bulgarian rider Ivalio Gabrovski, racing for Turkish team Konya Torku Şekerspor, maintained his turquoise jersey as the general classification leader with 13:57.05.

The Tour of Turkey will continue with the fifth stage, the 178-kilometer Marmaris to Turgutreis course, today. k HDN
