Assassinated Russian envoy to Turkey Karlov commemorated in Ankara

ANKARA

Former Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, who was assassinated in Ankara last year by a police officer, was commemorated on the first anniversary of his death. 

Russian ambassador to Turkey Aleksey Yerhov and other officials laid wreathes on the late ambassador’s memorial outside the Russian embassy.

Karlov was shot dead with nine bullets fired by riot police officer Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş late on Dec. 19, 2016, as he was delivering a speech for a photography exhibition at an arts center in Ankara. The assailant was shot dead by police officers at the scene of the incident.
