The second TÜYAP Antalya Book Fair has opened in the Mediterranean province, featuring titles from close to 80 publishing houses. The fair will host renowned Turkish writers and artists, including Banu Avar, Can Dündar, Canan Tan, İlber Ortaylı, Muzaffer İzgü, Nedim Gürsel and Türkan Şoray, for a series of panels and discussions.

The festivities also include poetry readings and other cultural events, as well as books signings from many of the 200 writers that are set to attend the fair. The book fair, the second to be organized in the Mediterranean province, is being seen as an important event for the artistic and cultural scene in the city.
 
Antalya is not yet a city of arts and culture but it will be soon, Antalya Gov. Ahmet Altıparmak said at the opening day of the fair at the Pyramid Congress Center. Children in Antalya between the ages of 7 and 14 read twice as many books as their counterparts elsewhere in the country, Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Akaydın said
