The Ankara Governorship approved the founding of a police force union after the petition was submitted for the second time Nov. 12, following a prior rejection issued several days earlier, daily Hürriyet has reported.

The Ankara governor previously rejected the petition Nov. 9, stating that the law did not allow for organizing a police force union. However, after members of the police force voiced their frustration with authorities and resubmitted their petition, the Ankara Governorship accepted the request.

The union, named Emniyet-sen, will be the first union formed for policemen in Turkey's history.
