Alanya’s signature lemonade blends lemon, peanut flavors
ANTALYA
Alanya’s peanut-paired lemonade offers a taste of regional heritage.
In the sweltering summer heat of the tourism hotspot of Antalya’s bustling Alanya district, a distinct geographically registered peanut lemonade is making waves by pairing crisp, refreshing citrus notes with the rich aroma of roasted unsalted peanuts.
The drink is among the geographically registered products promoted under Alanya Municipality’s “Alanya Culinary Heritage” project. Its preparation was demonstrated at the Alanya Municipality Culinary Culture House.
Project promotion coordinator Chef Nur Macit said that geographical registration protects the unique characteristics of products while supporting local production. She noted that Alanya has six geographically registered products: avocado, carob, banana, loquat, “gülüklü” soup and peanut lemonade.
She added that registration efforts are continuing for Alanya orphan halva, “kırtakı,” “çiğirdik,” eggplant talator, “laba” stuffed dish, “göç çöreği,” bean piyaz and S-shaped pastry.
Macit said the most distinctive feature of peanut lemonade is the addition of roasted, peeled and unsalted peanuts during serving.
“This unusual presentation combines the refreshing taste of lemon with the roasted aroma of peanuts. Although it may seem surprising at first, this harmony gives the drink a unique character,” she said.
“Peanuts balance the intense sourness of lemon. When the refreshing flavor and roasted peanut aroma come together, a different taste emerges. The crunchiness it leaves in the mouth is one of the most important details that makes this drink special.”
Macit said their aim is not only to record traditional recipes but also to document Alanya’s culinary culture and support local production.
She emphasized that peanut lemonade has an important place in the district’s hospitality culture.
“The importance of this flavor is not only that it refreshes people. It is a traditional drink known for being served to guests at weddings, holidays and special occasions. Peanut lemonade is a symbol of Alanya’s hospitality. Although it is preferred more on hot summer days, it is served at special gatherings and events throughout the year,” she said.
Macit noted that there is no other region in Türkiye where lemonade is served with peanuts, adding that this makes it one of the most distinctive examples of Alanya’s gastronomic heritage.
