AKP district head attacked in Turkey’s southeast

HAKKARİ
A district head from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been attacked in a grocery store in the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari.

AKP Yüksekova district head Müslüm Ortaay was attacked by four people while he was shopping, Doğan News Agency reported.

Ortaay visited a newly opened grocery store in the İpekyolu Street at around 9 p.m. on Jan. 25, after which a person who entered the grocery store attacked him. Three people waiting outside the store then joined the assailant.

Ortaay was rescued with the efforts of grocery store workers.

Ortaay was wounded in the head and several parts of his body and was taken to Yüksekova State Hospital. He received treatment at the hospital and received a report confirming the attack before heading to his home.

Noting that he had informed the police about the incident, Ortaay said police had begun to search for those involved in the attack. He also asked that the assailants be caught and punished as soon as possible.
