739 Turkish police personnel reinstated to their posts

ANKARA
Some 739 police personnel who were previously suspended over suspected links to what prosecutors call the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) have been reinstated to their posts, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on July 5.

Following investigations, the suspects were not reported to have any links with FETÖ.

The 739 public servants started to return to their posts as of July 4 following Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu’s approval.

The 739 personnel were among thousands of public officials dismissed nationwide in the wake of the deadly July 15, 2016 coup attempt. Many more remain under investigation.

Led by U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, FETÖ is accused of orchestrating the failed coup attempt, as well as being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state via infiltrating Turkish institutions, particularly the military, the police and the judiciary.
