Detention warrants have been issued against some 120 suspects, 36 of whom were detained as part of a probe investigating the leakage of a video tape which showed intimate footage of former Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader and current Antalya deputy Deniz Baykal, which led him to resign from the position in 2010.

Police detained some 36 people, 34 of whom were police officers, in the probe investigating tape leakages involving Baykal and other politicians from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). Some 31 suspects in the probe were reportedly arrested previously on other charges.

The former CHP head had referred to the 2010 leak of intimate footage featuring him and then-CHP deputy Nesrin Baytok as a government plot, alleging that he was the victim of a conspiracy.

“Such private images cannot be taped and such a plot can’t be realized without the knowledge of the government,” Baykal had said.

Referring to Fethullah Gülen, Baykal had also said he received messages of sorrow and support from Pennsylvania – where Gülen currently resides – and that he believed the sincerity of the messages sent from the United States.
