Some 23,939 cannabis roots and 146 kilos of hashish have been seized in a police operation in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Diyarbakır Police Department Narcotics Unit officers conducted an operation at three farms owned by a man identified as H.Ç. in rural areas of Diyarbakır’s Sur district early Aug. 21, capturing the illegal drugs.

Two Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, a pump-action rifle and ammunition were also confiscated after police officers searched H.Ç.’s home and car.

The officers staged the operation after they gathered intelligence on Indian hemp being raised on three farms in a rural part of Sur.

H.Ç. was detained by the police department’s narcotics unit officers after the operation.

“The operations being conducted for the security and serenity of our citizens will continue,” the Diyarbakır Police Department said in a written statement.

Meanwhile, at least 18 suspects were detained for drug trafficking in multiple police operations in Istanbul, as well as the western Black Sea provinces of Kastamonu, Zonguldak and Bartın.
