191 judges, prosecutors suspended over claims of Gülen links

ANKARA
The Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office launched a probe against more than 190 judges and prosecutors on Dec. 1 over their alleged links to the Fethullah Gülen movement, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

A total of 191 judges and prosecutors were suspended as part of the investigation, said a judicial source.

The suspects were said to be serving at first-degree courts.

To date, more than 3,600 judges and prosecutors have been dismissed since the July 15 coup attempt that left 248 dead and nearly 2,200 wounded.

U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen is accused of orchestrating Turkey’s July 15 coup plot as well as being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state by infiltrating Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
