A total of 14 outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants were killed in an air-supported operation in the eastern province of Tunceli, the Tunceli Governor’s Office said March 25.

Tunceli Gendarmerie Commandship units launched an operation against PKK militants in the Kutuderesi region near the Tunceli-Erzincan motorway in the early hours of the morning, engaging in an armed clash with the militants.

One soldier was wounded in the initial fire and was transferred to the Fırat University Hospital in the neighboring Elazığ by a military helicopter, while additional military units were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Fourteen PKK militants were killed in the operation and their ammunitions were also seized, the Tunceli Governor’s Office said in a statement.

It added that the wounded soldier was in a stable condition.

The operation is continuing with the support of Cobra helicopters firing shots on militants’ potential escape routes.
