Mayor of Hopa shot in office

The mayor of the Black Sea province of Artvin’s Hopa district, Turan Kasımoğlu, was injured after an unidentified man shot him in his office earlier today, daily Hürriyet reported.

Kasımoğlu of the Republican People's Party (CHP) was hit twice in the leg. The 56-year-old mayor was transported to a hospital in the adjacent province of Rize, where his condition was said to be non-life threatening.

Police have launched an investigation to find the gunman who fled after the incident.
