Woman dies after being struck by tram in Istanbul

A woman has died after being struck by a tramway earlier today at the Rami station on the European side of Istanbul, doctors have confirmed. 

The 33-year-old woman, identified as Nazan Can, fell onto the railway after slipping from the platform as the tramway was approaching the station during rush hour after work, reports said.  

Can, who sustained severe injuries due to the impact, was rescued by firefighters dispatched to the scene and transferred to hospital. 

She succumbed to her wounds during surgery, doctors said. 

The incident was the second deadly public transport accident this week in Istanbul, after a minibus fell from an overpass in the Güngören district on Nov. 20, killing two.
