ISTANBUL - Doğan News Agency
An unlicensed driver who ran a red light and hit a ten-year-old girl was released by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident took place on Atatürk Boulevard in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul.

According to information gathered, 10-year-old Sude Sarıoğlu was returning home after going shopping with her uncle, Erkan Özkulloğlu. They tried to cross the road when the traffic lights turned green for pedestrians on Atatürk Boulevard; however, when they got to the central median, a vehicle driven by 17-year-old unlicensed driver Hamza H. violently hit Sarıoğlu. Having been lifted and thrown by the impact of the crash and drenched in blood, Sarıoğlu fell heavily on the ground. The driver, on the other hand, immediately fled the scene of the incident.

Injuries

Having run away after the accident, Hamza H. was arrested by police and taken into custody. After his testimony, the unlicensed driver was released upon the prosecutor’s order. Severely injured, the girl’s shoulder and leg bones were completely broken, and part of her leg which was detached by the accident required a surgical operation. The family of the victim protested the driver’s release. “It won’t even be determined whether she will walk or not for at least a year,” mother Nurfer Sarıoğlu said.
