The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will host various activities in Paris between Nov. 14 and Dec. 11 to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Evliya Celebi.

The events to commemorate the famous Ottoman traveller will begin with a colloquium on Nov. 14 and 15 with the participation of Turkish and foreign scientists and scholars.

Celebi was an Ottoman traveler who journeyed through the territory of the Ottoman Empire and neighboring lands over a period of 40 years. Celebi began his travels in Istanbul, taking notes on buildings, markets, customs and culture. In 1640, he started his first journey outside the city. His collection of notes from all of his travels formed a 10-volume work called the “Seyahatname” (Book of Travels)
